Seventies and '80s funk compilations are a dime a dozen, but usually turn out very good just because of the high quality of the music at the time. Spirit of Funk is no exception, featuring wonderful artists such as the Meters, Bobby Womack, even Jamiroquai. Plus, with such classics as Curtis Mayfield's "Pusher Man" and Earth Wind & Fire's "Shining Star," it is hard not to recommend the album despite some of the lesser songs sprinkled throughout. There are better compilations out there, but this is still a pretty good album overall. ~ Bradley Torreano
