Personnel: Greg Clayton (guitar); Dave Young (bass); Jerry Fuller (drums).
Recorded live at Cafe Boomers, Pointe Claire, Quebec, Canada from January 9-11, 1997. Includes liner notes by Randy Cole.
This CD captures Greg Clayton, a fine Canadian straight-ahead guitarist, live at Cafe Boomers in Pointe Claire, Quebec, along with bassist Dave Young and drummer Jerry Fuller. The recording quality is excellent and the rapport among the trio members is solid. Clayton's guitar work is highly refined; his relaxed time feel and pointed attack recall Peter Leitch.
Kicking off the set with Kurt Weill's "This Is New," Clayton and his trio carry on with better-known standards like "There Is No Greater Love," "My Shining Hour," "Ghost of a Chance," and "You Don't Know What Love Is," the last of which features Clayton's strongest playing. Other highlights include "You've Changed," which glides along at a medium bossa nova tempo, and Clayton's original minor blues, "Misdemeanor." ~ David R. Adler
