Tin Pan Alley＜Colored Vinyl＞

Tin Pan Alley is the name given to a collection of New York City music publishers and songwriters who dominated the popular music of the United States in the late 19th century and early 20th century.

It originally referred to a specific place: West 28th Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues in the Flower District of Manhattan. Haruomi Hosono (Apryl Fool, Happy End, Yellow Magic Orchestra),

Masataka Matsutoya (music producer, arranger, keyboard player and composer married to popstar Yumi Arai), Shigeru Suzuki (also guitarist in Happy End) and drummer Tatsuo Hayashi

(later on in fusion prog-bands such as Aragon and Parachute) took the name for granted. Their 1975 self-titled debut is still one of the most sophisticated venture in the so-called city pop scene.

ティン・パン・アレーとは、19世紀後半から20世紀初頭にかけてアメリカのポピュラー音楽を席巻したニューヨークの音楽出版社やソングライターたちの集団に付けられた名称です。元々は特定の場所を指していました。マンハッタンのフラワー・ディストリクト、五番街と六番街の間の西28番街です。細野晴臣（エイプリル・フール、はっぴいえんど、イエロー・マジック・オーケストラ）、松任谷正隆（音楽プロデューサー、アレンジャー、キーボード奏者、作曲家。ポップスターの荒井由実と結婚）、鈴木茂（はっぴいえんどのギタリストでもある）、そしてドラマーの林立夫（後にアラゴンやパラシュートといったフュージョン・プログレッシヴ・バンドで活躍）らは、この名称を当然のこととして受け入れていました。1975年に発表したセルフタイトルのデビュー・アルバムは、いわゆるシティ・ポップ・シーンにおいて、今でも最も洗練された作品の一つとして知られています。
