MC Eiht's debut album, Last Man Standing, occasionally gets monotonous, falling into standard hardcore rap cliches, but the best tracks illustrate that he has a knack for deep bass grooves and slamming beats. He's a solid, if unexceptional rhymer, but he knows how to accentuate his gifts, even if he relies too much on the usual sex, drugs, crime, and money gangsta lyrics. The best moments, however, are first-rate hardcore rap -- too bad there just aren't enough of them. ~ Leo Stanley
