This ten-disc, 114-track box set collects sides John Lee Hooker recorded for the Vee-Jay and Gotham record imprints and includes Hooker classics like "Crawlin' King Snake," "Boogie Chillen'," and "Boom Boom" (the latter two are presented in both studio and live performance versions). Hooker wasn't too particular about honoring contracts, but his relationship with Vee-Jay, which lasted from 1955 through 1964, was the closest he came to market stability. Included here are the albums I'm John Hooker, Travelin', The Folk Lore of John Lee Hooker, Burnin', The Big Soul of John Lee Hooker, On Campus, Concert at Newport, Is He the World's Greatest Blues Singer?, In Person, and Gotham Golden Classics: The Rare Recordings, each of which is also available as a stand-alone disc. ~ Steve Leggett
