This is another gorgeous effort from Dale Ann Bradley, one of bluegrass' best-kept secrets. Once again Bradley proves that sentimentality and spirituality needn't come off syrupy, especially when delivered with one of Kentucky's clearest, purest voices and delivered with commitment and humble sincerity. Bradley has a knack for ingenious covers, having tracks made popular by U2 and Stealer's Wheel in the past -- and this effort is no different. Here she unleashes a steaming version of the Johnny Cash nugget "Passin' Thru" and unearths Gordon Lightfoot's "The Circle Is Small," which seems tailor-made for Bradley's high, sweet tones. Guests on this great effort, which has all the warmth of a cozy fireplace, include Allison Krauss, who provides harmony vocals and vocals, and guitar and production work by Dan Tyminski (of O, Brother Where Art Thou fame). ~ Erik Hage
