By the time it was released, 'Til Tuesday was no longer extant, having trimmed down to Aimee Mann and whomever she was collaborating with that week. As a result, EVERYTHING'S DIFFERENT NOW is for all intents and purposes Mann's first solo album, displaying themes that would become familiar in her later work. These topics include micro-analyses of failed relationships in general and her failed relationship with songwriter Jules Shear in particular ("J for Jules"). This contrasted with her steadfast belief in true love ("(Believed You Were) Lucky"). EVERYTHING'S DIFFERENT NOW nearly lives up to its title, as Mann augments her trademark sound with acoustic guitars and her catchiest hooks yet.
