Many of the late-'70s big name rock bands experienced a dip in popularity in the early-'80s. Usually it was attributed to musical departures that the band's core fan base wasn't willing to accept, and although Heart didn't stray far from their hard rockin' direction with 1982's PRIVATE AUDITION, it was the group's first release to not reach gold-certification status in the United States. However, Ann Wilson's vocal pipes were still some of the best in the business, as evidenced by such standouts as the rocking album opener "City's Burning," the piano-based title track, and the ballad "Angels." While not as focused as past releases such as DREAMBOAT ANNIE or LITTLE QUEEN, Heart fans should definitely check out the underrated PRIVATE AUDITION.
