Given that a very Ally Christmas could possibly involve anorexia, this album might seem, at first glance, disturbing. Fortunately, it's actually a very nice piece of work, and totally accessible even if you've never witnessed star Calista Flockhart dancing with a weird animated baby. Flockhart herself shows up to croon "Santa Baby" in a style both infantile and erotic, a mix emulated by R&B diva Macy Gray on the inevitable "Winter Wonderland." The bulk of the album, however, is a series of soulful takes on holiday standards by Vonda Shephard, the show's one woman Greek chorus. The most surprising track, however, comes courtesy of an out-of-rehab Robert Downey Jr., who turns in a surprisingly credible version of Joni Mitchell's "River."
