Fortunately for music lovers, though, the relative success or failure of said notion has little to do with the quality of the accompanying (admittedly inevitable) soundtrack album. Whether you buy into a street-smart Shakespeare vibe or not, there's an undeniable pleasure to be found in these tracks. From the Desdemona-to-Othello devotional pledge "O (Hatin' on You & Me)" by Meko and the DJ Ran Project to the good-natured collective feeling of Spooks' "Something Fresh," O presents a wealth of progressive hip-hop thankfully far beyond the usual thug-life also-rans. The more maintream-minded listener will be sated by the presence of a few Kurupt tracks, but overall this is a surprisingly forward-looking collection.
