101 Reykjavik is a curious film score project that brings together Blur frontman Damon Albarn and former Sugarcubes leader Einar Orn Benediktsson. Together, the two make quite the pair as they abandon the sounds of their respective bands to create a fluid, bizarre blend of techno, trip-hop, and flamenco. The results are quite entertaining, as each song has its own unique oddness that paints a lovely sound picture. The icy chill of the title track is one of the many highlights, but it is the several different versions of the Kinks' "Lola" that steal the show. Done in styles as different as dub and flamenco, the song is the unofficial melody line that continues to pop up as the album goes on. A few other artists make appearances, most notably Gus Gus, but even their tracks are still composed by Albarn and Benediktsson. Fans of the two artists may find the soundtrack a little odd, but nothing here is that difficult to swallow and even casual listeners may find this minor gem a fun (if weird) mix. ~ Bradley Torreano
