heffield, England DJs Mark Fell and Mat Steel specialise in a unique brand of spacey, minimalist post-house music. To create their Snd tracks, Fell and Steel filter digital detritus and undisclosed source material through customised software. With its origins in data errata and other microprocessed sounds, MAKESND CASSETTE is always clean but rarely sterile.
Snd's loping grooves are fashioned from mysterious whooshes, bubbles, crackles, and minute glitches. Halo-like auras surround each bit or byte, conveying a hint of distant-relationship to the classic techno machinery of Detroit techno and a much nearer kinship with label-mate Oval's fractured digital folds and facets. The accumulative glow of Snd's pinpoint aureolae generates implicit melodies that connect strewn dots and loops like lengths of vaporous webbing.
