1993年の名作EP3作品を1つにまとめて待望の初アナログ化!

実験的エレクトロニック・ミュージックの先駆者として知られる伝説的バンドのSeefeel。1990年代初頭にロンドンで結成され、シューゲイズとエレクトロニックを横断する最も革新的なグループのひとつとして頭角を現した彼らは、重層的なサウンドスケープ、ミニマルなリズム、そしてアンビエントな感性で、本作『Pure, Impure』の後には、エレクトロニックやテクノを軸に多彩な作品を輩出してきた名門〈WARP〉からもリリースを残している。

今回初めてアナログ盤としてリリースされる本作には、1993年に〈Too Pure〉より発表された「More Like Space」「Plainsong」「Time to Find Me」の3作のEPを収録。Aphex Twinによるリミックスや、未発表デモ音源「Moodswing」も含まれた全11曲入り。リマスタリングは名門Abbey Road StudiosにてGeoff Pescheが担当し、アートワークも新たに再構築されている。

Seefeels take on electronic music is not quite like any other outfits, and the particularities of their sound were apparent from their earliest output. While their 1993 debut full-length, Quique, is a master stroke of their brand of dubby, dreamy underwater shoegaze shot through with deep bass, the material that made it to several of their EPs that same year is just as powerful. Enter Pure, Impure, an EP that captured three stray tracks of Seefeels unique rhythmic and hypnotic dreamscaping, as well as some remixes. "Plainsong" is an upbeat and sprightly tune with the vocals buried deep in the mix, hitting the same stride as some of the more drum machine-reliant tracks on My Bloody Valentines Loveless, and the nearly 11-minute-long "Minky Starshine" evolves slowly from ambient textures and chaotic samples into a meditative, bass-heavy chillout jam. Aphex Twin contributes two remixes of "Time to Find Me" in fast and slow variations, both containing the essence of Seefeels woozy beauty that made up the original, as well as the mischievous spirit that lives in all of his work. ~ Fred Thomas
