ロンドン・フィル首席客演指揮者、オランダ放送フィル首席指揮者を務め、世界各地の一流オーケストラにたびたび客演するなど多忙を極めるカリーナ・カネラキス。2025年7月には都響を指揮して日本デビュー、マーラーの「巨人」の大きなスケール感を保ちながら細部までゆきとどいた音楽で、聴衆を熱狂させました。首席客演指揮者を務めるロンドン・フィルとの初のフルアルバム。チャイコフスキーの5,6番という超名曲王道レパートリーの登場です。

＜カリーナ・カネラキス(指揮)＞
ニューヨーク生まれ、ニューヨーク育ち。シンフォニー、オペラの両面で高く評価される指揮者。深い感動、奥行きのある表現、技術の精緻なコントロールで世界の楽団やオペラハウスから引っ張りだこの存在です。2021年からLPOの首席客演指揮者を務める(2026/27まで契約を延長)ほか、オランダ放送フィルの首席指揮者を務めています。また、2019-23はベルリン放送交響楽団を務めたほか、2023/24はウィーン学友協会のアーティスト・イン・レジデンスを務めました。もともとはヴァイオリンの名手でもありますが、ベルリン・フィルハーモニーのアカデミーでラトルの強い薦めで指揮を始めます。ソリスト、室内楽アンサンブルのリーダーなどをつとめたほか、マールボロ音楽祭にも何度も登場したのち、本格的に指揮を始めました。

This album brings together two of Tchaikovskys works known for their emotional range and strong orchestral writing, and the program highlights the orchestras ability to move between expansive lyricism and dramatic intensity. In the Symphony No. 5, conductor Karina Canellakis shapes the opening movement with steady momentum, allowing the recurring thematic material to develop clearly across the orchestral sections. The London Philharmonics strings provide a warm foundation, while the woodwinds and brass contribute distinct color in the works more prominent passages. The second movement unfolds with a measured lyrical character, with the orchestra maintaining a balanced dynamic that preserves the movements reflective tone. The "Pathetique" Symphony receives a similarly controlled interpretation. Canellakis maintains a clear structural line across the opening movement, guiding the orchestra through the shifting contrasts between restrained passages and more forceful climaxes. The London Philharmonic performs with disciplined ensemble coordination, producing a cohesive orchestral sound that supports the symphonys changing moods. The final movement is delivered with a restrained and steady pacing that emphasizes the gradual descent of the musics closing pages. The recording presents the orchestra with clarity and natural balance. Individual instrumental lines remain audible within the broader orchestral texture, and the overall sound image captures the ensemble without excessive emphasis on any single section.
