God Does Like Ugly

JIDs widely acclaimed third album, The Forever Story, has only grown in popularity since it first appeared in 2022, earning a gold certification and scoring a viral hit with the single "Surround Sound," which reached the Billboard Top 40 two years after it was first released. God Does Like Ugly, the original working title of The Forever Story, arrived in 2025, reaching number 11 on the Billboard 200, one slot higher than its predecessor. Largely sounding like a continuation of the themes and messages of The Forever Story, God Does Like Ugly contains introspective verses making references to the rappers upbringing, his family, and Black church traditions in the South (as on the choir-sampling "Glory"). The album balances more violent, hardcore material (the Clipse-featuring "Community") with songs primed for the club (the Miami bass-influenced "WRK" and "Sk8"), with the nostalgic coming-up story "For Keeps" being a highlight. ~ TiVo Staff
