オーストリアはウィーン出身のデス・メタル界のレジェンド、PUNGENT STENCHの1989年作幻のデモ音源が再発。1988年8月25日にイングランドのウスターにあるBirdsong Studioで、わずか1日で録音された、原始的かつ獰猛なデスメタルの真髄を捉えた作品。中でも注目すべきは、実に37年間もの間音源が行方不明だった幻の楽曲「Rip You Without Care」がついに発見・収録されている。更に今回の再発ではボーナス・トラックとして「Embalmed in Sulphuric Acid」と言う強烈なタイトル曲が収録されており、これはウィーンでの午後のセッションで録音されたもので、なんとNAPALM DEATHやEXTREME NOISE TERRORのメンバーとともに、PUNGENT STENCHのリハーサルルームで行われたコラボ録音された代物。まさに、当時のグラインド/デスメタル・シーンの核心にいた面々が残した、凶暴で濃密なサウンドの遺産と言える。他、1988年の未発表ライブ音源も収録。デス・メタルのルーツを体感したいファンや、初期グラインド/エクストリーム・メタル・ファンにとってはマスト・アイテム的作品。

This out of print EP features three songs -- "Extreme Deformity," "Mucous Secretion," and "Molecular Disembowelment" -- which had actually served as the band's second demo tape. Rather than re-release the EP, these songs were included as bonus tracks on the group's debut album, For God Your Soul...For Me Your Flesh [Original Version]. In a strange move, though, Nuclear Blast re-released For God Your Soul...For Me Your Flesh in 1993 with a new cover and without any of the bonus tracks, making this EP (and the group's other early recordings) near impossible to find until 1998 when the label finally released a compilation of the group's rare early recordings, Praise the Names of the Musical Assasins. ~ Jason Birchmeier
