Russell Dickerson is back with a fourth outing that leans a little heavier into his personal life, but strays even further from straightforward country. Famous Back Home echoes a sentiment that, at the end of the day, the Tennessee singer/songwriter would rather be a hometown hero than a global brand. But that doesnt stop him from playing to the back seats with a more pop-forward mix of stadium anthems, hip-hop beats, and electronic-laced bangers. While his lyrical tone emphasizes themes of family and domesticity, the music feels anything but internal or introspective. Give Dickerson credit, though; Famous Back Home is his boldest, most genre-defying set that meets the moment where country has become as mainstream as pop in American culture. ~ Timothy Monger
