With Came by to Kill Me, Kerosene 454 roars to the forefront of the Washington D.C. hardcore scene. The record manages to capture a perfect balance between punk's noisy dissonance and a melodic sensibility. The used formula is the exact opposite of the Pixies. While Frank Black relied on quiet verses and exploding choruses, Kerosene 454 opens with the explosion, using the chorus to reflect and replenish before diving in head first yet again. Like all of their catalogue, the record belongs to drummer Darren Zentek. His inventive timing prevents several cuts from dulling due to excessive repetition. All in all a strong effort and a fine example of the prototypical D.C. sound. ~ Yancey Strickler
