マルティヌーのチェロとピアノのための作品全集を録音!

Supraphonレーベルが力を注いで新録音を手掛けるチェコの作曲家ボフスラフ・マルティヌー(1890-1959)。当アルバムはチェロとピアノのための作品を収録、演奏はチェコの俊英ヴィレーム・ヴルチェクです。
ヴルチェクはクラクフのペンデレツキ国際チェロ・コンクール優勝、マルクスノイキルヒェン国際器楽コンクール優勝など、これまで出場した各コンクールで優勝、入賞を重ねている注目の演奏家。すでにチェコ・フィルハーモニー管弦楽団、プラハ交響楽団、バーゼル室内楽などとの共演を経験しています。国際音楽祭ヤング・プラハ イン東京コンサート2019の来日公演では日本の聴衆の前で素晴らしい演奏を聴かせてくれました。ピアノはベラルーシのデニス・リンニクです。リンニクは先に行われたエリザベート王妃国際音楽コンクール2025のセミファイナリストとしても話題となった注目のピアニストです。
多作曲家マルティヌーは、同世代のどの作曲家よりもチェロのための作品を書きあげ、室内楽作品と協奏曲の両方を作曲しています。今回のチェロとピアノのための作品全集の録音はマルティヌーが晩年を過ごしたシェーネンベルクから数キロしか離れていないバーゼル音楽院で行われました。その作品のほとんどはフランク、フルニエ、オネゲル、ピアティゴルスキーなど、マルティヌーの友人であった有名なチェリストたちのために書かれました。スロヴァキア民謡による変奏曲はマルティヌーの最後の室内楽作品。この作品から彼が帰ることのできなかった祖国へ思いを聴くことができます。ヴルチェクとリンニクがマルティヌーの神髄にせまる演奏を聴かせます。

Bohuslav Martinůs three cello sonatas are popular works, presenting his melodic gift in compact ways. There have been strong recordings over the years; consider the one by Janos Starker and Rudolf Firkušny. This one, by cellist Vilem Vlček and pianist Denis Linnik, doesnt feature household names, but both are rising figures. They do the music justice and were rewarded with an appearance on classical best-seller charts in the summer of 2025. Martinůs tuneful neoclassicism is consistently interesting and never grows old, and the performers bring the right lightness to the outer movements of the cello sonatas, with a bit of rhythmic vigor. However, Martinů lived through and worked during the most momentous years of the 20th century, and this shows up in his music as well. The slow movements have a pensive vein, and there are explosive moments that reveal a life under tension; Vlček catches these in an animated way. Another draw to the double album is the presence of smaller works for cello and piano that are not so common; these vary in quality, but there are more examples of Martinůs unfailing tunefulness in the Pastorales and elsewhere. A guaranteed-enjoyable album for those who love Martinů. ~ James Manheim
