Shortly after the release of his sixth album Hurry Up Tomorrow, international pop star the Weeknd followed with a feature-length film of the same name. Both the album and the film are based loosely on autobiographical material drawn from The Weeknds experiences with the darker side of fame, and the film portrays a slightly fictionalized version of the star dealing with existential dread, insomnia, and depression after losing his voice and not being able to sing mid-performance. The moody synths and heavy atmospheres that were buried under enormous pop production on the album Hurry Up Tomorrow are pulled into the foreground on the Original Motion Picture Score. Production from Oneohtrixpoint Never on these mostly brief, incidental pieces is similar to the more dystopic material on his solo albums, evoking the feelings of anxiety, anticipation, and strain that the film explores. The second half of the track list is populated mostly with previously released material from the studio album Hurry Up Tomorrow, balancing the moody instrumental side of the score with more melodic and structured sounds. ~ TiVo Staff
