若くしてイギリスで成功を収めたイタリア人作曲家ジェミニーニ(1687-1762)は、コレッリやアレッサンドロ・スカルラッティに師事してヴァイオリンと作曲の腕を磨き、1714年、26歳の時にロンドンに居を構え、アンサンブル奏者、ヴァイオリニスト、そして教師として瞬く間に名声を博し、ヘンデルとも交流して、多くの公演でオーケストラを指揮してもいます。
ジェミニアーニの大きな業績のひとつが奏法や理論に言及した楽譜の出版で、表現力豊かな演奏、装飾、そしてアーティキュレーションの微妙なニュアンスについて詳細な洞察を提供していました。
ここでは「趣味の良い音楽技法に関する理論集」(テキスト5ページ、楽譜31ページ)、 「趣味良く演奏するための規則集」Op.8(テキスト2ページ、楽譜18ページ)、「ヴァイオリン演奏の技法」Op.9(テキスト9ページ、楽譜51ページ)から抜粋演奏し、バロック時代の演奏実践の一端に触れることができます。
