UK GARAGE、JUNGLE、DUBSTEPのフィールドで頭角を現し、2022～2023年間でSHALL NOT FADE傘下TIMEISNOWやPRACTICAL RHYTHMS、EC2A、T4T LUV NRG等でリリースを連発していたロス拠点のDJ/PRODUCER・INTROSPEKTが、満を持して遂にデビュー・アルバムをリリース。ダブ・ステップの発祥地であるサウス・ロンドンにオマージュを捧げる研ぎ澄まされた7トラック収録。トランスセクシュアルである彼女の別視点からの融合/支配から逃れるUKベースとガラージのライン、時にアトモスフィリックに、時にストイックに、シンプルなぶん骨格がよりはっきりと浮かび上がる明確なダンス・グルーヴ!

Introspekts first album arrives on Tempa, a British label that played an essential role in dubsteps creation during the early 2000s. The Los Angeles-born, New York-based producer seems to have been raised with U.K. bass culture, having played her first DJ gigs alongside Deep Medi Musik signees during the 2010s, and she regularly fills her sets with classic garage, dubstep, and jungle tracks. Her album is a natural fit for the label, as it contains tracks that stay true to the stripped-down minimalism and heavy bassweight of dubsteps original form. Tracks like "Dilation" and "Physicality" have a bit more of a 2-step swing and late-night sensuality to them, bringing them closer to deep house than most dubstep. "2 the Front," "Perhaps," and the digital-only "Make Me Dance" are laced with sighs and moans that seem to be directly responding to the floor-shaking low-end. "Fractal" manages to be incredibly catchy while containing nothing more than clanging percussion, minimal melodic bleeps, and bulbous bass. "Sublimate" is a remake of KMA Productions "Cape Fear," a U.K. garage classic that sounds far too contemporary to have been released in 1996. Introspekt punches the beat up a bit and makes it all seem a bit busier, but keeps the original tracks darkness intact. Shes clearly been studying garage and dubstep for ages, as her production skills are airtight, and Moving the Center sounds absolutely spot-on. ~ Paul Simpson
