Emo-prog warriors Coheed and Cambria return with Vaxis III: The Father of Make Believe, in the Amory Wars saga. The band touch on virtually every stylistic and production nuance theyve explored over 30 years in a startlingly focused collection composed by frontman Claudio Sanchez and writer and musician Chondra Echert. The narrative is from the point of view of an aging father (familial, communal) reflecting on the many changes and losses his people have experienced and endured over a lifetime. They also include a four-part suite on the albums latter half, with meaty riffs, chamber strings, infectious hooks, and crunchy, fist-pumping anthems.

USプログ・メタルの雄による11枚目のアルバムは、前作に続きコンセプチュアルな作風を継承。今作は喪失をテーマに据え、哀調を帯びたメロディーで感情移入を誘う。とはいえ、甘美なポップセンスも随所で光っている。ヘヴィーな躍動感を叩きつける"Blind Side Sonny"、ドラムンベース的なアレンジを仕込んだ"Play The Poet"など曲幅も豊かで良質曲が勢揃い。
