フランスで今注目度急上昇中のカウンターテナー、ベノス=ディジャンのアルバムの登場。パーセルと、その師および弟子でもある作曲家たちの作品をならべたプログラムです。「嘆きの歌」は、アルフレッド・デラーによる歌唱で、ハルモニアムンディの最初期のアルバムとして不朽の名録音が残っていますが、ここにあらたな名盤が誕生しました。

「パーセルを同時代の作曲家たち、つまり彼の師であり弟子でもある作曲家たちと並べるというアイデアは、パーセルが生きている間に彼を取り囲み、育んだ豊かな音楽の全体像を示すために必要だと私たちは考えた。ジャスティン・テイラーが寛大にもレパートリーの調査に協力してくれたおかげで、私たちは多くの厄介な問題の解決に直面することになった。私自身は、パーセルが絶対的な名手であった「グラウンド」のバスを土台とするパーセルのエアが一番優れていると思っていた。しかし、ジョン・ブロウ、ウィリアム・クロフト、イェレミア・クラーク、ジョン・エクルズ、そして謎めいた「ミスター・バレット」の音楽にも、声と楽器を駆使した素晴らしい作品を発見することができた。」(ベノス=ディジャン)

ベノス=ディジャンは、10歳の頃から、モンプリエのオペラ座のオペラ・ジュニアとして舞台に立ち始めました。ミンコフスキ、ルセ、ヤーコプスら、古楽界の最高峰の指揮者たちと共演を重ねベルリン古楽アカデミー、カフェ・ツィンマーマンなどとの共演も目白押しの、今を代表するフランスのカウンターテナーです。

テオティム・ラングロワ・ド・スワルテ(コンサートマスター、Vn)やジュスタン・テイラー(チェンバロ)も名を連ねる若手精鋭アンサンブルを得て、陰影に富んだ表情、そして透明感のある声が遺憾なく発揮されています。
