ラヴェル: ダフニスとクロエ

ラヴェル生誕150年記念。アジス・ショハキモフ指揮によるラヴェルの象徴的なバレエ音楽『ダフニスとクロエ』の演奏は、その輝きを余すことなく捉え、ラヴェルの不朽の遺産を称えます。

『ダフニスとクロエ』の壮大なスコアは、セルゲイ・ディアギレフが自身のバレエ団「バレエ・リュス」のためにラヴェルに委嘱したものであり、ラヴェルの作品の中でも最も大規模なものです。1912年に初演され、「交響的舞踏(シンフォニー・コレオグラフィック)」と称されるこの作品は、およそ1時間にわたる作品で、大編成のオーケストラ(小型の青銅製シンバル、カスタネット、風の音を模したウィンドマシンなどを含む)と、歌詞のない合唱を伴い、古代ギリシャの田園で暮らす若い恋人たちの冒険を描いています。作品には、ニンフやサテュロス、襲撃する海賊、そして牧人と家畜の神(パン)などのキャラクターも登場します。
この作品で最も有名な場面は、第3部の冒頭に描かれる、地中海の日の出の幻想的な描写です。鳥たちは歓喜に満ちたさえずりを響かせ、音楽は虹色の波のように立ち上り、輝きと温かさに満ちています。バレエは、5/4拍子のリズムを活かした圧巻のディオニュソス的(陶酔的、創造的、激情的)な「全員の踊り」で幕を閉じます。
2024年、アジス・ショハキモフ(1988年タシュケント生まれ)率いるストラスブール・フィルハーモニー管弦楽団の演奏は、これまでの古典的な演奏に鮮やかな水彩画のような色を加え、ラヴェルの印象派的な音の世界に深みと情感を加える、幻想的な合唱の魅力を際立たせています。
この作品をコンサートで演奏された際、Resonances Lyriques誌は「陶酔感あふれる音の風景」と絶賛し、「オパールのように輝く音色…高音弦の魅惑的な統一感とレガート、低音弦の威厳ある包容力、軽やかで完璧な木管楽器、鋭さよりも包み込むような金管楽器、色彩豊かな打楽器…そして強くも気品のあるハープ」とその表現力を称えました。さらに、Dernieres nouvelles d'Alsace新聞は「この名作の有名なフィナーレは、あらゆる期待に応えるものであった。オーケストラが繰り広げたクライマックスは、官能的かつ情熱的で、まさに生命が爆発するような自発的で感動的な高揚感に満ちていた」と熱く評しています。

The 150th anniversary of Ravels birth brought several recordings of Daphnis et Chloe, arguably his orchestral masterpiece. Listeners can choose from among some big names, such as Antonio Pappano at the head of the London Symphony Orchestra, but they should also pay attention to this 2025 release from Warner Classics. It brings a rising star in the form of conductor Aziz Shokhakimov; the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg perhaps punches above its weight here, executing Ravels silky string textures and his complex percussion writing (14 instruments). Shokhakimov is a rising figure who is well worth keeping an eye on, and what better place to do it than in this lovely score? He is of Uzbek background, and there is something of the Russian school in his approach. Listen to the big sweep of the opening material as it rises from the almost inaudible (or perhaps totally inaudible for some streamers). He has big gestures, but he is also capable of beautiful wind textures in the likes of the "Lever du jour" at the beginning of Part 3. The textless Choeur de lOpera National du Rhin doesnt get much notice in the graphics, but their rich, mysterious sound is essential to this work. The Palais de la musique et des congres in Strasbourg is an ideal environment for this music, and the Warner engineers keep all the elements of a complex score in balance. A Daphnis et Chloe that can stand with any other. ~ James Manheim
