Working Men's Clubを率いるSyd Minsky-Sargeant、Andrew Weatherallのフックアップを受けたのちに一気にスターダムにのしあがった10年代以降のテクノシーンを代表するDaniel Avery、更にはJames Greenwoodによるダンス・ミュージック・プロジェクト、Ghost Cultureという3者によるスペシャル・コラボ・プロジェクトとしてDemise of Loveが始動!

1stシングルとして4曲入りのEPが5月30日に発売決定!ハードなインダストリアル・サウンドが打ち込まれ、突如壮大なロックへと展開する先行シングル「Strange Little Consequence」、デトロイト・テクノの壮大なサウンドスケープを感じさせる「Carry The Blame」、インダストリアル・パンクの中にメランコリックな多幸感を感じさせる「Be A Man」、そしてGreenwood の純真な歌声が響き渡るポップ・ソングの「Like I Loved You」 という全4曲を収録している。

ミックスはThe Smashing Pumpkins、My Bloody Valentine、Jesus and Mary Chainを手がけるAlan Moulderが担当、それぞれのアーティストが持つ独特の音楽性を感じさせながらも、決して彼ら個々の作品の単なる延長ではなく、まったく新しいサウンドを生み出している。

Demise of Love consists of Daniel Avery, James Greenwood (Ghost Culture), and Sydney Minsky-Sargeant (Working Mens Club), who hadnt worked with each other before entering the studio together for the first time. Their self-titled debut EP consists of four songs which blend glossy, futuristic new wave pop with industrial and acid house elements. Opener "Strange Little Consequence" has a tough midtempo rhythm with squirming electro-acid synths, and it switches between slightly distorted spoken verses and a gleaming, New Order-esque chorus. "Carry the Blame" contains Auto-Tuned vocals, prismatic synths, and a sturdy electro-pop rhythm which could easily carry a Depeche Mode song, though its barely two-minutes long and has a long fadeout, ultimately feeling not quite finished. "Be a Man" is a hard techno banger crossed with raging industrial rock, like a cyberpunk collision between Underworld and Nine Inch Nails. "Like I Loved You" is an unexpected detour into shiny, vaguely Prince-like pop revealing the groups tender side. The EP has some impressive parts, particularly the overwhelming wash of sound whenever the synth pads hit. As a whole, however, Demise of Love feels like a tentative project that hasnt quite come together or hit its stride yet. ~ Paul Simpson
