Haley Fohrs entire discography is marked by constant reinvention. From the noisy avant-folk of her early recordings, she has since made profound art-rock statements like In Plain Speech and Reaching for Indigo, and diverted into outlaw fantasy disco with her alter ego Jackie Lynn. After Circuit des Yeux incorporated expansive orchestral instrumentation into 2021s -io, the projects subsequent singles all explored different sonic directions, with 2024s startling "God Dick" containing furious strings, skittering electronic beats, and a flash of choral vocals at the end. The 2025 full-length Halo on the Inside introduces itself with "Megaloner"s stark industrial beats, which are alternately swarmed with distortion and accompanied by icy synth melodies. "Canopy of Eden" is more danceable, with Fohr repeating "I can make a radio break" over burbling electronics, electro beats, and a nearly Chemical Brothers-worthy bassline. "Skeleton Key" takes a while to paint a mood before it attacks with a slow, heavy crunch, and "Anthem of Me" counters its sludgy pounding with Fohrs operatic wailing. "Truth" is haunted drone-disco with layers of knocking percussion and effects escalating Fohrs vocals to ghastly proportions. "Organ Bed" has a truly dramatic build, matching its "deep into infinity" lyric by plunging into a dazzling synth sequence along with stargazing horns and scattered vocals, all conveying a feeling of transcendence. Both introspective and commanding, Halo on the Inside charts a path between the club and the cosmos. ~ Paul Simpson
