Varese Sarabande does a great service by being the first label to present Jerry Goldsmith's entire score in all of its percussive glory. The additional 21 minutes, plus resequencing the music the way it originally appeared in the film, creates a fresh listening experience for this historically innovative soundtrack. A more dubious addition is the 161/2-minute suite from Escape From the Planet of the Apes. The music -- mirroring what happens when some ape scientists travel back to 1970s America -- often sounds positively kitschy with its intrusions of electric guitars, sitars, electronic keyboards and rock drumming. Planet Of The Apes (1968)｜CDアルバム
初めてこの作品を観た時の驚きとラストの衝撃的なシーンは忘れられない。監督はフランクリン・Ｊ・シャフナー、主演はチャールトン・ヘストンで今から半世紀以上前の作品だがＳＦ映画史に残る作品といえるかもしれない。音楽担当は巨匠ジェリー・ゴールドスミス。巨匠の作品としては比較的早期かもしれないが巨匠特有の美メロは殆どなくアバンギャルド的なサウンドの連続。パーカッションのリズムが凄い。ＬＰは持っているのだがどうしても気になったのでＣＤもゲットしてみた。60年代後半の巨匠の世界を楽しむこととしよう。
