Pine＜限定盤＞

スヴェン・ワンダーのサウンドを支えるギタリストにして、スウェーデンの極上バンドDina Ogonの中心人物、ダニエル・エグレンの新アルバムがアナウンス。

シネマティックなライブラリー・ミュージックからアンデス・ステップまでもを横断した前々作『FASTINGEN-92』で炸裂させたソフト・サイケ・サウンドと、祖母の写真をジャケットに配した前作『Laponia III』で展開したビル・フリゼールのようなギター・ワークによる独自のエキゾ・アンビエント・ミュージックを、元来持っていたバレアリックの領域を拡張しながら融合させたような仕上がりだ。

先行公開された「Vanern」は、スティーリー・ダンとクルアンビンがミックスしたようなメディテーショナル・ファンクとでも呼びたい極上のサイケ・チューン。実際にスウェーデンに存在するヴェーネルン湖のことを指すと思われるこの曲は、シタールとスチールギターを組み合わせたような響きのリフが印象的。ヒップホップを通過した感覚で打たれるビートと、ジャズやファンク、AORのエッセンスを含みながら独自の色彩感覚をもつ上物は、これまで彼が表現してきた音楽の歩みの賜物といえるかもしれない。

熱心なリスナーであれば、彼の生み出すサウンドから耳を離すことは到底できないだろう。早くも2025年ベスト級の新作に、期待が膨らむばかり!

Daniel Ogrens mastery as a producer and multi-instrumentalist pre-dates his current band Dina Ogon, though that is the project that informs much of his 2025 solo set, Pine. Like the Swedish musicians other solo albums, Pine is instrumental, with a sun-dappled tone that evokes soft rock, light psychedelia, Tropicalia, and Nordic pop and folk. Its an amalgam hes been refining since the early 2010s, both on his own and with collaborators like Sven Wunder, Amason, and Anna von Hausswolff. Since releasing 2021s eclectic standout Fastingen-92, Ogren has made three gorgeous albums as a member of Dina Ogon, the retro-leaning indie pop group he formed with singer/guitarist Anna Ahnlund around that same period. The bands quick rise to success elevated Ogrens profile in Sweden and Dina Ogons jazzy soul-pop vibe spills over onto Pine. More so than the pastoral and often nostalgic Laponia III, the solo album he put out in 2022, Pine leans into his smooth pop side, citing references like ABBA, Weather Report, and Hall & Oates. The music here is groove-based with the guitar serving as the melodic driver rather than synths. Tracks like "Monda," "Anna," and especially the lovely "Volda" sound like they could have been lyric-less outtakes from Dina Ogons 2024 highlight Orion. As a mood-setter, Ogren is a craftsman, building subtle textures and nudging emotions with great finesse. His tasteful guitar work is a balm, especially on blissed-out golden hour gems like "Ardal" and "Lofoten Sunset." Pine should appeal to fans of Ogrens earlier releases, but plays almost like a companion piece to the Dina Ogon albums, and is a win for all involved. ~ Timothy Monger
