「声」の扱いに定評のある英国の作曲家マーティン・バッシ-の作品集。「A Brother Abroad」はミドルセックスのピンナー教区教会の奉献700周年を記念して作曲されたカンタータ。14世紀に実在したフランシスコ会の司教"ボローニャのペトロ"(1260頃-1332)の生涯を描いたもので、司教、修道士、政治家としての役割を果たしたペトロの姿が、独唱パリトンとフルート、ホルン、パーカッションによる演奏で描かれています。添えられた2曲の無伴奏作品は、カンタータの素材を発展させたものです。アルバムにはホイットマンの詩による「Children of Adam」とブロンテの詩による「A Chainless Soul」も収録。バッシ-によるドラマティックな物語を堪能できます。
