Time Enough for Love

British downtempo duo Seahawks recorded Time Enough for Love after their first visit to Los Angeles. Even though they became sick with the flu and were stuck in bed for a while, the atmosphere of the sprawling coastal metropolis became an inspiration for the pair, and Time Enough for Love is their attempt to translate that feeling into music. While blissful and hazy, the music doesnt exactly have the sort of West Coast yacht rock vibes one might expect from some of the duos past releases. Without context, some of it comes across as quite wintry, especially the opening title track, with its flickering beats and drawn-out glow. "Sail Across the Moon" has mellowed-out deep house keyboards and woozy vocals drifting into the night. "Messengers" is half chillout-room reverie and half lysergic trip, with soothing Rhodes keys atop vaporous, slushy beats. "Falling Deep" features a pleasant, sparkling melody and jazzy bass, while cosmic wisps sprinkle downward. "Like a Grain of Sand" begins by sampling poet Rachel Sherwood, then after meshing (or synthesizing) the sounds of rushing water and seagulls, the track settles into a lightly shuffling groove. "My Shining Dream" is a delight simply because of the spherical glow of its phasing effects. "Journeys Out of Mind" is free of beats entirely, letting all remaining worries rush out with the ebb tide. Acclaimed ambient dub trio Purelink provide a remix of the title cut as a digital bonus track, attaching sparse yet intricate beat-clicks to a calm, smoothed-out atmosphere. ~ Paul Simpson
