The first music Morgan Wallen released after competing on the sixth season of The Voice, Stand Alone appeared in August 2015, roughly a year after he left the show. Here, Wallen isnt as concerned with establishing a distinctive voice as much as demonstrating that he understands how to play by Nashvilles rules. Sitting somewhere adjacent to bro-country in its attitude, Stand Alone is filled with bright country-pop melodies, sports-bar beats, reflective ballads, and, in "Yin Yang Girl," a bit of overt silliness. He gamely tries on each style, acquitting himself well: he has the skills to adapt to the changes in mood and the charisma to make it sound like hes not pandering. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
