Although most wouldn't think of 1980s arena rocker Billy Squier as a blues enthusiast, it shouldn't come as much of a surprise. After all, Billy has never been ashamed to flaunt his Led Zeppelin influence, and the mighty Zep was based in the blues. So, on HAPPY BLUE, Squier tries something a little different. Rather than his expected anthemic melodic rock, he showcases eleven blues rock tracks that are based around voice and acoustic guitar. The new, 'mature' Billy Squier sounds comparable to the Black Crowes' quieter moments (a la the Crowes' 1990 hit "She Talks To Angels"), especially on such tracks as "Inferno (Everybody Cries Sometimes)", "River", "The Pursuit of Happiness", and the album opening "Happy Blues". HAPPY BLUE proves that Billy Squier is still alive and well.|
