Blessid Union Of Souls is a multi-cultural quartet that plays acoustic-based, rural-flavored soul. Spiritual but not preachy, the Souls' music presents a strong social consciousness with a genre-busting style that incorporates gospel, hip-hop, psychedelia and folk. Think of Arrested Development with blistering rock guitars, strings and R&B harp.
These are mostly love songs--to women, for humanity, and even, in the blues-drenched "Oh Virginia," to a state. But they're love songs with a social conscience and an inspirational point of view. "I Believe" deals with interracial love. "Nora," which carries a musical hint of early Elton John, eulogizes singer Eliot Sloan's grandmother.
With rich, whole harmonies, the group's vocals suit a great range of styles, never sounding forced. On HOME, the Souls' sincerity runs from every zealous note they sing right down to their very personal liner notes.
