In the second half of the 20th century, tango means the great Argentinean bandoneonist and composer Astor Piazzolla. Although tango is a form of popular music, Piazzolla wanted to raise it to the level of classical music, having studied with classical composer Alberto Ginastera, and especially Nadia Boulanger, at the Paris Conservatory of Music. As for Aquiles Delle-Vigne, he is a classically trained pianist, being a pupil of the great Claudio Arrau and Eduardo Del Pueyo. He has performed all around the world with some of the greatest symphony orchestras. On this CD, he offers us a solo CD of arrangements for piano solo of some of Astor Piazzolla's best tangos. Intimate and as exuberant as tango music can be. We get a new perspective on tango and on Piazzolla's music. The bandoneon is absent but the soul of tango is there. ~ Bruno Deschenes|
