近年世界中の歌劇場やホールでもはや「現象」を巻き起こしている注目のカウンターテナー、カルロ・ヴィストリがharmoniamundiから登場!力強い歌声、完璧なコントロールと超絶技巧は、18世紀当時を席巻していたカウンターテナー歌手の歌声もかくや、と思わせるもので、世界中の歌劇場やホールを席巻している注目の存在です。

ヴィストリは1987年スペイン生まれ、2012年チェスティバロック声楽コンクール優勝、2013年、レナータ・テバルディ国際声楽コンクール(バロック部門)優勝。2015年、クリスティ主宰の「声の庭」メンバーに選出され、以降クリスティのほか、アラルコン、ガーディナー、そしてアンドレア・マルコン、ジョヴァンニ・アントニーニらといった指揮者からひっぱりだこ。バルトリとも共演を重ねています。

タイトルになっている「In furore」RV 626の最初のアリアは、テキストの劇的な内容のとおりの熱狂的なコロラトゥーラで、さらに弦楽群も攻撃的なパッセージを繰り広げますが、ヴィストリの完璧なテクニックと、器楽陣との丁々発止のアンサンブルは圧巻としか言いようがありません。悲嘆、苦痛、自責の念に満ちた2つ目のアリアにも胸を打たれます。フィナーレの「アレルヤ」は1:33ほどの楽章ですが、これでもかというヴィルトウォーゾ・パッセージの嵐。ヴィストリは一音一音に完璧な陰影までをもつけながら、最後の高音まで一気呵成に歌い上げています。

Countertenor Carlo Vistoli has been on operatic stages since the late 2010s and has made several recordings, but it is with this 2024 release that he really comes into his own and rises toward the top of the pack of younger countertenors seeking to follow the giants of the genre. Vistoli is a product of the educational program Le Jardin des Voix, associated with the French Baroque group Les Arts Florissants, but his style transfers very well to Italian opera and sacred music. Here, he offers three Vivaldi pieces for solo voice and orchestra, with the venerable Akademie fur Alte Musik Berlin accompanying him with an appropriate smoothness. One, the final In furore Iustissimae irae, RV 626, is a fiery piece in an entirely operatic language; while there are more spectacular performances of this piece, Vistolis is impressively controlled. In the longer Stabat Mater, RV 621, and Nisi Dominus, RV 608, Vistoli really shines. There are plenty of recordings of these, but rarely elsewhere is one going to hear one gorgeous melody after another, each rendered in a different texture of creamy voice. It is a thrilling performance. The program is augmented by some unusual Vivaldi concertos from the Akademie fur Alte Musik and concertmaster Georg Kallweit (there is no conductor). For example, listen to the odd cascading effect in the Concerto for strings in G minor, RV 157, at the beginning. Clear and immediate sound from the b sharp studio in Berlin is another draw.
