After releasing a lengthy debut album which blended atmospheric trap beats with hazy guitars, Destroy Lonely abandoned the guitars for his second full-length, but largely kept to his familiar sound of erratic, Auto-Tuned vocals and moody production. LOVE LASTS FOREVER isnt quite as long as If Looks Could Kill, but it was similarly released in multiple variations with differing content. Lil 88 co-produced every track, and it generally sticks to deep 808 beats and crystalline synths, with flashes of epic orchestral arrangements inspired by RPG scores. Its actually some of the best-sounding work Destroy Lonely has released yet -- "Doubt It" sparkles, in particular, and "Honestly" has some impressive, fluid synth tones. However, the rapper still hasnt distinguished himself from the legions of watered-down Playboi Carti clones, even if hes managed to become one of the most popular, and his sexual boasts and gun talk still sound tired and rehashed. LOVE LASTS FOREVER is a bit of a step forward for Destroy Lonely, but its still nothing earth-shattering. ~ Paul Simpson
