Oda was formed in 1970 around the talents of brothers Randy and Kevin Oda along with Art Pantoga and Kyle Schneider. The self-titled album (now known as "The Black Album") was originally released privately on the Loud Records label in 1971 with a limited edition run of 1000 copies. Now a sought after collectors item, the original presses of this album contained nine hard rock songs written by the band and featured the impressive lead guitar work by Randy Oda. This limited re-issue of 1000 copies by Hallucination CDs, compiles the original album along with four bonus tracks that were also recorded in 1971 and not found on the original album. Although the sound quality on this recording appears a bit muddled, the album would be of interest to collectors and any fans of early-'70s hard rock music. Unfortunately the band broke up a couple of years after the release of this album but Randy Oda would go on in the late '70s with Tom Fogerty in the band Ruby, then to a reformed Oda in the '80s. ~ Keith Pettipas
