US/オクラホマを拠点に活動するノイズロック/スラッジバンドCHAT PILEの2024年作アルバムがリリース。

2022年作デビューアルバム「GOD'S COUNTRY」でその名を知らしめ、2023年にはインディーズ映画「TENKILLER」のサウンドトラックをリリース。本作は待望の2ndアルバムであり、不協和音のドロドロしたノイズロックテイストはそのままに、ゴス調のダージー・サウンドからアルト/インディーを彷彿とするフック、メタル・グルーヴまで、様々な音楽的要素が溶け込んだ全10曲を収録。CHAT PILEはバンド名の由来となった"有毒廃棄物の山"のように息苦しくグロテスクさを体現したサウンドでUSのみならず世界中を恐怖へと引きずり込み続けている。

With their 2022 debut album, Gods Country, Oklahoma City band Chat Pile presented a vivid and tormented breed of sludge metal power, marked by uncommonly discernible lead vocals that looked sociopolitical horrors dead in the face. Their second album, Cool World, is an even more clearly defined rendering of the groups sound. The influence of 90s heavy music institutions like the Melvins and Nirvana is even more pronounced, with opening track "I Am Dog Now" hitting with the churning intensity of the Jesus Lizard and "Frownland" all but quoting a Nirvana riff from In Utero. As with Gods Country, clearly audible lyrics address the horrors and isolation of a capitalist society, this time around even adding hints of melody and ugly hooks. The production throughout is more varied and rife with tension, bringing Chat Piles dire perspectives into a sharper focus. ~ Fred Thomas
