2024年、LSO Liveは25周年を迎えます。これを記念して、生誕200年記念のスメタナ(1824-1884)、そして没後120年のドヴォルザーク(1841-1904)、生誕170年のヤナーチェク(1854-1928)作品を集めた記念ボックスを発売します!2024年の最新リマスタリングのサウンドでSACDハイブリッドでお楽しみいただけます。
オーケストラの自主レーベルは今や世界の主流となっていますが、その嚆矢となったのがLSO Liveでした。1999年録音の記念すべき第1弾「ドヴォルザーク:新世界より」が発売されて以降、怒涛のリリースは広く知られるところとなっております。
サー・コリン・デイヴィス(1927-2013)は1995年からLSOの首席指揮者を務め、2006-2013年はプレジデントも務めた、文字通りLSOの象徴的存在でした。サー・コリン・デイヴィスのLSO Liveからの録音は、グラモー賞やグラモフォン・アワードを含めた世界中の名だたる賞を受賞しております。サー・コリン・デイヴィスの指揮によるLSOサウンドは絶妙のブレンド感とバランス感が際立ち、それでいてエネルギーにも満ちた至上の演奏です。ラトルは2017年9月から2023年秋まで音楽監督を務め、ブルックナーの交響曲や、ヤナーチェクのオペラ、さらにストラヴィンスキー作品、また、ヴァイオリンのエーベルレをゲストに迎えたベートーヴェンのヴァイオリン協奏曲など、記憶に残る名盤をLSO Liveに残しています。ラトルとのLSOはテンションが高く、コリン・デイヴィス時代から磨かれた弦楽器の音色の美しさに、エネルギーに満ちたリズム感も加わった魅力があります。

The "25 LSO Live" logo in the graphics for this release refers to the fact that LSO Live, the in-house label of the London Symphony Orchestra, is celebrating its 25th anniversary. These recordings, for the most part, were among the first released on the label and feature longtime conductor Sir Colin Davis leading the orchestra in the last four Dvořak symphonies. There is a subsidiary programming principle; the album celebrates a "Year of Czech Music" in 2024, the 200th anniversary of Smetanas birth, as well as several other anniversaries. Hence, the Sinfonietta of Janaček is included (in a much later performance led by Simon Rattle that adds little and breaks the acoustic continuity), as well as Smetanas Ma vlast from the same early group by Davis. Davis had recorded most of this music before, and arguably more colorfully; here, he settled into a precise, rather nervous manner that undeniably showcased his control over the orchestra, near effortless by this time. He is at his best in Smetanas much-played Ma vlast, which here seems to reveal fresh details even in its most familiar sections. Sample the Vltava ("The Moldau") movement, where eddies and currents below the main stream represented by the big theme are carefully brought out. Promotional copy leans heavily on the 2024 remastering of this material, but to these ears, the tweaking can do only so much with material that was only of moderate sound quality, to begin with; the orchestras engineers learned as they went along in releases for this label over the years. Still, whatever cavils one might have, these are certainly strong Czech music recordings by a fabled conductor at an attractive price, and anyone hearing them will hardly be anything other than satisfied. ~ James Manheim
