ロンドンの物理学研究所の委嘱作品で2010年に初演されたエドワード・カウイーの「Rutherford's Lights - 光と色の24の練習曲。もともとはハートフォードシャー大学のレーベル「UH Recordings」に録音されたものですが、今回Metierレーベルがライセンス契約を結び「カウイー・コレクション」の一環に加えられました。自らも物理学を学んだカウイーならではの、さまざまな光の状態を描写した24曲の小品で、きらめくようなピアノの響きが耳をとらえます。1966年マンチェスター生まれのピアニストで、現代作品を得意とするリチャード・ケイシーが見事な演奏を聴かせます。
