The remix album is one of industrial music's most beloved institutions. Maybe it has to do with the genre's recycle-everything aesthetic, or maybe it's because those sample-heavy grooves take so long to piece together that they want to get more use out of them. Whatever the reason for their prevalence, every industrial band has at least one or two in its catalogue. Skinny Puppy's 1990 12-INCH ANTHOLOGY serves a dual purpose; while it gives a chance for noted producer-remixers like Adrian "Tackhead" Sherwood and Richard 23 of Front 242 a chance to put their own imprints on Skinny Puppy's tracks, it's also a handy history course. This album is perfect for fans who discovered the band with its fifth release, 1988's VIVISECTVI--which is to say, most of the band's audience, especially in the burgeoning US goth-industrial scene. Here, they can explore reworked tracks from earlier releases like 1986's MIND: THE PERPETUAL INTERCOURSE and 1987's CLEANSE FOLD AND MANIPULATE. The ten lengthy tracks are often radically reconstructed, and many are improved for the experience.
