Recorded live in Paris, France in 1981. Unlike its American counterpart, which regarded punk rock with the same disdain that one's mother would regard an unpleasant stain on the carpet, British radio actually embraced and actively promoted the music as if it were a viable commodity. In particular, the BBC's Radio One recorded almost every significant artist of the time, including Ulster's own Stiff Little Fingers. The Stiff Little Fingers RADIO ONE LIVE IN CONCERT disc captures the band ripping through a set of classic and semi-classic material as if their lives depended on it. "Just Fade Away" and "The Only One" showcase Jake Burns' melodic howl at its raucous best, and "Roots, Radicals, Rockers & Reggae" demonstrates that the legacy of Bob Marley was alive and well, even in Northern Ireland. However, the boys are not all bombast and aggression, and their hilarious ode to bad luck "Silver Lining" comes across well in its live incarnation. This and the many other CDs in the series remain essential purchases.
