Personnel: Rudy Braff (cornet); Scott Hamilton (tenor saxophone); Dave McKenna (piano); Gray Sargent (guitar); Marshall Wood (bass); Chuck Riggs (drums). Recorded live at the Regattabar, Charles Hotel, Cambridge, Massachusetts on November 26 & 27, 1993. Includes liner notes by Dan Morgenstern. Personnel: Ruby Braff (trumpet, cornet); Gray Sargent (guitar); Scott Hamilton (tenor saxophone); Dave McKenna (piano); Chuck Riggs (drums). Recording information: Regattabar, Cambridge, MA (11/26/1993/11/27/1993). Photographer: Jack Bradley. Cornetist Ruby Braff has teamed up with tenor-saxophonist Scott Hamilton on several occasions and the combination always proves to be exciting. This live sextet session, which also features the great swing pianist Dave McKenna and guitarist Gray Sargent, finds the classic players bringing new life to eight veteran standards including "Rosetta," "Struttin' with Some Barbecue" and "The Lady Is a Tramp." Braff in particular is full of subtle surprises and sly humor, spontaneously concluding a slower-than-usual version of "Sunday" with a quick tribute to Louis Armstrong. Dixieland and swing fans should go out of their way to get this one. ~ Scott Yanow

商品の紹介

Down Beat (8/95, p.44) - 4 Stars - "...juicy lyricism, gentle attack and flirtatious low register....serious musicians would do well to consider these elements, as made manifest on this fine CD....both elegance and rhythmic variety in nearly everything he plays....a lovely and loving jazz performance from all concerned..." JazzTimes (3/96, pp.101-102) - "...this is an enjoyable and comfortable affair, as of old friends well met....Delivered with relaxed authority, Braff's cello-like tone is enchanting....Their nonchalance, fortunately, is not consistently controlled, and several choruses peak with emotional intensity."
