The reissue of Chico Buarque's second LP, released in 1967. The album reflects an especially convulsive time frame of social life in Brazil, at the same time portraying the moment of the booming of Buarque's career, with his participation in the previous year in the II FMPB (where his "A Banda" won the first place) winning third place in the III FMPB with "Roda Viva," which was the theme song of the same-named play that had a tumultuous career, having been assaulted by right-wing supporters. Buarque's sound of those times is acoustic and almost exclusively samba-influenced, with strong bossa influences in the drumming. Economic flute sections and choir subtly stress some passages, and the MPB-4's privileged vocals also enrich the material. The songs which remained actively cherished through the times are the marcha-rancho "Noite dos Mascarados" (with the brothers Os 3 Morais), the tender samba-cancao "Com Acucar, Com Afeto" (delivered by one of the Tres Morais, Jane, as the vocal possibilities of Chico's aren't enough for this melody), the samba "Quem te Viu, Quem te Ve," and the lyrical samba-cancao "Morena Dos Olhos D'agua." The album also has other important, interesting, and creative melodies and lyrics, from which can be mentioned the beautiful choro "Um Chorinho." ~ Alvaro Neder
