ポール・モラヴェックとマーク・キャンベル共作のオペラ『シャイニング』(2016年)の世界初録音。スティーブン・キングが1977年に発表したホラー小説を原作とするこのオペラは、恐怖を誘うモラヴェックの非常にリアルな音楽とキャンベルの絶妙な詩で、「物語をホラーから人間ドラマへと昇華させた」(ウォール・ストリート・ジャーナル誌)などと絶賛されています。

当公演は批評家からも世間からも高い評価を得ており、この魅力的な作品が初めて録音の形でリリースされます。巨匠ジェラード・シュワルツ率いるカンザス・シティ交響楽団とカンザス・シティ合唱団のメンバーは、素晴らしいソリストたちとともに演奏会を大成功させました。主役のジャック・トランスを演じたエドワード・パークスは、2018年にPENTATONEからリリースされ、グラミー賞を受賞した『スティーブ・ジョブズの革命〈進化〉』(PTC-5186690)でジョブズ役を演じ、非常に高い評価を得たバリトン歌手です。
