ボルチモアにある自身の自宅にてレコーディングされており、平凡な日常生活と創作活動における緊張感をテーマにしたアルバム。ヴェルヴェット・アンダーグラウンドやローリー・アンダーソンと比較されるソング・ライティングは本作でも発揮されており、ラストにはヤング・マーブル・ジャイアンツ"SALAD DAYS"カヴァーも収録されています。

Linda Smiths movement from four-track cassette recordings to more elaborate studio situations was a bit of an unfortunate thing. Her overall aesthetic didnt change on releases like Nothing Else Matters, but half of the appeal in her songs came from her mastery of intimate, low-fi bedroom recording, and the clearer, more arranged sound of Nothing Else Matters loses some of this charm. Its impossible to blame Smith for this -- no one could expect her not to make the natural progression, and her songwriting is just as idiosyncratically wonderful on Nothing Else Matters as it was on her earliest work -- but theres still something lacking on these later recordings. ~ Nitsuh Abebe
