I Am Music cherrypicks platinum hits and other much-loved tracks from across Lil Waynes prestigious career, focusing at times on the wave of success the New Orleans rapper was riding as the 2000s bled into the 2010s. Hearing one mega-hit after another from this era -- the ubiquitous "A Milli," one of Drakes earlier guest verses on the triumphant "Right Above It," the silly pop fun of group track "BedRock"-- its easy to see the impact Weezy had on popular rap at his peak. Wayne not only holds his own on tracks with Eminem and Jay-Z, but sounds so fresh and strange that he connects on a deeper level in these moments. Though I Am Music tends to hover around the golden phase Wayne experienced after 2008s The Carter III and before the glow of fame started to diminish around 2013 or so, but also goes as far back as 2004 Mannie Fresh-produced party track "Go D.J." and includes a few selections from 2018s Tha Carter V such as the standout storytelling bars of Kendrick Lamar-assisted "Mona Lisa." The compilation kicks off with "Kant Nobody," a 2023 single built on a DMX sample. The nonstop brilliance of I Am Music furthers the case for Lil Wayne being the greatest rapper alive, or at the very least, presents ample evidence of the days when he was. ~ TiVo Staff

先日のニッキー・ミナージュに続き、リル・ウェインもグレイテスト・ヒッツ的なコンピをリリース。故DMXの声をサンプリングしたスウィズ・ビーツ製の最新曲"Kant Nobody"を冒頭に置き、初期曲は当然ないものの〈Tha Carter〉シリーズをスタートして以降の神がかった楽曲群が一気に堪能できる全18曲。"A Milli"や"Lollipop"のギラギラした集中力はやはり格別だ。
