Young For Eternity

2000年代のUKロック・シーンに颯爽と登場し、爆発する若さと疾走感溢れるギター・ロックで多くのファンを魅了したザ・サブウェイズの1stアルバム。

ロンドン郊外のウェルウィン・ガーデン・シティ出身のパンク・バンド。これまでライブ活動やリリースを通し着実にファンを増やしてきた。2007年にリリースしたセカンド・アルバム『All Or Nothing』はUKチャートの17位を記録した。

Rock & roll is the province of youth. Each generation needs new bands to call its own, preferably bands close to the audience's own age. Hence, the Subways, a U.K. trio who won the Best Unsigned Band competition at the 2004 Glastonbury Festival and released their debut album, Young for Eternity, the following year when they were all still in their teens (it appeared in America early in 2006). The songs are clearly the work of teenagers, scrabbling together strands of their favorite bands -- chiefly Nirvana and Oasis, yet there are elements of other Britpop bands like Supergrass, along with post-grunge groups like the Vines -- to create something that feels comfortably familiar. Teenagers in 2005 and 2006 may find this to speak directly to them simply because the Subways are new in appearance, even if they aren't new in sound. ロンドン郊外のウェルトンガーデン・シティから飛び出した3ピース・バンド。ウェルなんとかがどこにあるかを知らなくても、このピュアな衝動はロックを愛するリスナーすべてのハートに辿り着くだろう。平均年齢18歳、モータウンとチャールズ・ブコウスキーを愛するヴォーカル／ギタリスト＝ビリー・ランの張り裂けそうな歌声、紅一点のベーシスト＝シャーロット・クーパーのミニ・スカート姿はUKのメディアをノックアウトしているし、上半身裸で叩きまくるドラマー＝ジョシュ・モーガンのどこかシャイそうなヒゲ面も憎めない。パンク～グランジを通過したドライヴィンなギター・サウンド。ラウドなノイズを解き放ちながらもメロディーが際立ったクリアな質感は、プロデュースを手掛けたイアン・ブロウディの確かな手腕だ。とにかく、どこを切ってもジューシーで、ロックのつぶつぶ100％。いっきに飲み干しちゃいましょう。
