More About Nothing

During his initial rise to worldwide success, D.C. rapper Wale repeatedly returned to the ubiquitous television comedy series Seinfeld as both an inspiration and a reference point for his straightforward, down to earth, and sometimes blunt lyrical style. Much like the shows characters spent their time discussing everyday concerns and navigating the strange maze of the human experience, Wales songs focused more on relationships, pop culture fascinations, and his personal perspectives than larger-than-life depictions of celebrity life or gangsterism. Wales connection to Seinfeld began showing up in his music with 2008s The Mixtape About Nothing, a Seinfeld-themed project jumping off from the series premise of being "A show about nothing." This association peaked with 2015s The Album About Nothing, a chart-topping studio album featuring exclusive content recorded by Jerry Seinfeld himself, but before that came the 2010 mixtape More About Nothing. Broken up with dialogue from the show, Wales style of hook-heavy, high production rap with pop undercurrents comes through in an especially laid-back way throughout the mixtape.
